Animals have been used at motifs in jewelry for centuries, from the Ancient Egyptians, to Native Americans, and especially noted in the Victorian Era, when Prince Albert presented Queen Victoria with her famous snake engagement ring. The trend has never died, with a wide variety of creatures turned into beautiful and fanciful adornment.
During the middle of the twentieth century, jewelers enjoyed producing elaborate whimsical brooches with precious stones. Primarily worn during the day for luncheons, teas and matinees, these pieces were the perfect touch on a suit lapel or the collar of a dress coat. All the well dressed women of the era were sure to sport a brooch when out and about! Today, these beauties are being seen on the Red Carpet, at the Opera, the theatre, and galas everywhere - and they aren't just for the ladies! Modern men have been enjoying the trend, and we couldn't be more delighted!
This vintage bee brooch is encrusted with diamonds, sapphires and rubies, with one luscious round pearl serving as her thorax. She will glitter and glisten with every lunge and parry you make, and no one will ever feel the sting!
