Animals have been used at motifs in jewelry for centuries, from the Ancient Egyptians, to Native Americans, and especially noted in the Victorian Era, when Prince Albert presented Queen Victoria with her famous snake engagement ring. The trend has never died, with a wide variety of creatures turned into beautiful and fanciful adornment.

During the middle of the twentieth century, jewelers enjoyed producing elaborate whimsical brooches with precious stones. Primarily worn during the day for luncheons, teas and matinees, these pieces were the perfect touch on a suit lapel or the collar of a dress coat. All the well dressed women of the era were sure to sport a brooch when out and about! Today, these beauties are being seen on the Red Carpet, at the Opera, the theatre, and galas everywhere - and they aren't just for the ladies! Modern men have been enjoying the trend, and we couldn't be more delighted!

This Vintage flying goose brooch is a perfect example of unisex jewelry for the fashion forward set. Glittering with icy diamonds, rich rubies and deep sapphires, this is one glamorous goose! The bright green emerald collar shows that she is a domesticated sort, but that is the only tame thing about her! A tiny spring mechanism under one wing allows movement of the appendage, a nod to the Victorians, who loved to wear "En Tremblant" jewelry. The subtle movement allows for more sparkles when under the light, and will have everyone taking aim at the artfully styled avian on your breast!
