During the middle of the twentieth century, jewelers enjoyed producing elaborate whimsical brooches with precious stones. Primarily worn during the day for luncheons, teas and matinees, these pieces were the perfect touch on a suit lapel or the collar of a dress coat. All the well dressed women of the era were sure to sport a brooch when out and about! Today, these beauties are being seen on the Red Carpet, at the Opera, the theatre, and galas everywhere - and they aren't just for the ladies! Modern men have been enjoying the trend, and we couldn't be more delighted!
This whimsical brooch, a beautiful golden crown, is studded with precious stones: diamonds, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and pearls. The mark "Deborah's Queen" indicates that this brooch was given as an award for an outstanding volunteer of the Deborah Heart And Lung Center, New Jersey. The Deborah Story traces its history back to 1922 when the hospital was founded as a tuberculosis sanatorium and pulmonary center. Thousands of TB patients were medically treated and successfully cured by a heroic team of Deborah physicians driven by compassion. Today, the Center focuses on surgical techniques and non-surgical procedures for diagnosing and treating all forms of cardiac, vascular and pulmonary diseases in adults, as well as congenital and acquired heart defects in adults and children. It offers treatment with no out of pocket expense to its patients, relying on philanthropy to cover expenses. A wonderful keepsake of an important and amazing facility, it is also a lovely, glittering and happy brooch which will make you feel like royalty whenever you wear it!
