Outstanding Medusa Cameo Stick Pin 14K circa Mid 19th Century
Couldn't load pickup availability
This unusual circa Mid-19th Century cameo features an extremely high relief shell carving of Medusa, depicted in profile, with a wing on the side of her head, and snakes entwined in her hair and around her neck. Many Victorian depictions show Medusa as the young, beautiful woman she was in the beginning of Ovid's telling of her tale, with snakes entwined in her hair rather than replacing it. The cameo is set in 14K gold, with geometric facets and delicate gold rope detailing. The shank has spiraling on the top half. It is in an antique brown leather box lined with blue velvet and blue silk.
