The era we now know as "Art Deco" received its name from the Exposition International des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes, held in Paris in 1925, which was largely dedicated to the jewelry arts. The style embraced a cleaner line and more geometric shapes than seen in the past. Emphasis was placed on the relationship between art and modern industry.
Platinum is very strong. In addition, it does not tarnish, and it doesn’t corrode making it a highly prized metal and extremely suitable for the manufacturing of fine jewelry. The oldest known examples of the metal used in jewelry date back to 1200 BC, with traces of it found in Egyptian pieces. It became popular to the western world when King Louis XVI declared platinum the only metal for kings in 1786 and commissioned several pieces to be executed in the metal. The production of a more malleable platinum began in England during the early 1800s,
This high style Art Deco Brooch is a real testament to the enduring movement. With 13 triangular step cut and three French cut synthetic sapphires, complemented by 22 old European diamonds, it is no simple little trinket! During the 1920s, the technology of creating synthetic sapphires in a lab was all the rage, and this brooch was very cutting edge at the time. We love the platinum framework, with the extravagant bow, the little embellished hearts, and the stunning blue hue winking from the base of the brooch. If ever there were a time to begin wearing brooches, you may start with this incredible relic from the Roaring Twenties! We are so in love with her, we are naming her after our favorite actress from the era, Clara Bow!
