The pomegranate, a rosy-hued fruit, bursting with plentiful, glowing red, jewel- like seeds, is one of the oldest, cultivated fruits. The ancient Greeks believed it to have been planted by The Goddess of love, Aphrodite on the island of Cyprus.
Garnets are associated with love, life blood, and the human heart. Because of its similarity to pomegranate seeds, is also symbolic of friendship, and the safe return of loved ones, just as Persephone returned from the Underworld to her mother every Spring, in Greek Mythology.
Glittering flat cut, closed back, foiled garnets and luscious seed pearls embellish this 18 karat gold brooch. A treasure from the Georgian Era, the clasp has been replaced at some point in time, as evidenced by the solder marks on the reverse. Resembling a flower, she is ready to be plucked and harvested into your collection!
