Giardinetti, or ornamental floral jewelry was popular during the Georgian Era. Flower motifs were incorporated into brooches, rings and pendants using skilled metal work and precious gems as well as paste. The pieces were given as love tokens to sweethearts and friends. Many of the original larger pieces were later broken down to make smaller jewelry items, such as our example. A stunning diamond and sapphire floral motif set in silver giardinetti was made into a ring using an 18 karat gold shank. Beautifully proportioned, she has quite the fancy shank complete with a lavishly decorated basket. A gorgeous little piece of history that came into existence during the height of Marie Antoinette's rule in France!
