A phenomenal pearl work or weddingwork brooch circa 1830. Pearlwork has recently become extremely desirable among collectors for its frothy, feminine aesthetic, and romantic history; pearl work pieces were often given as wedding gifts to new brides, hand made by loving, crafty family members, and later undertaken by expert jewelers. Each pearl has been fastened to the mother of pearl backing using blanched horsehair which has remained untouched and in perfect condition since the jewel was made. This brooch has a beautiful, sparkling amethyst at its center, giving a luscious contrast to this beautiful heirloom!
Circa 1830
