Opals have long been admired for the sparks in their multi-colored depths. They were considered by all in the ancient world to be the most bewitching and mysterious of gems. The birthstone of October, they can be found in many colors and patterns. In folklore, it is believed that when you see a rainbow and wear an opal, good fortune will follow you.
Rubies have been highly valued for centuries, and are thought to bring energy and protection to the wearer. They are a stone of passion and love. Once only worn by royalty, it has remained a favorite gem, beloved for its rich pink to red hue. Diamonds are thought to represent invincibility and give strength to the wearer, as well as symbolize eternal, enduring love.
The combination of opals and rubies was a popular choice during the Victorian Era, and has been used here to perfection. Converted from an antique pendant, this ring is set in 9 karat yellow gold. A fantastic, light gray-blue opal with plenty play of color is haloed by juicy pink rubies. The reverse has a beautiful basket with decorative cut outs, mounted on a simple 14 karat yellow gold shank. A statement ring that you'll find yourself reaching for again and again!
