Between the Franco-Prussian War and World War I, 1871- 1914, much of Europe enjoyed a period of peace, prosperity, optimism, rapid developments in science and technology, and relative political stability. It was "the beautiful era" (Belle Epoque), a golden age, a time best characterized by the expression joie de vivre (from the title of a book by Émile Zola). Fashions in art and decor moved away from the heavy styles of the Victorian era, with nature and flowing lines dominating the aesthetic in jewelry.
Crafted in 18 karat yellow gold, this wonderful French station chain has been hand fabricated and hand chased, with natural pearls at each link (note: one pearl is missing). A gorgeous, delicate relic from the beautiful Art Nouveau period, it looks just as elegant today!
