The Belle Epoque, or 'Beautiful Age' (Fr.), was a period of peace and prosperity, with artistic expression taking the forefront in many forms of life, including fashion and jewelry. The timeframe for this era is 1871 - 1914, just before the onset of WWI. In America, this period is referred to as 'The Gilded Age'. The Industrial Revolution stimulated the economy, making it possible for the middle classes to purchase luxuries like jewelry and fashionable adornments.
Elegant and glamorous, this beautiful navette ring is crafted in both 18 karat yellow gold and platinum. Diamonds were considered more desirable if set in a white metal, and the technique of alloying platinum had just become more accessible to jewelers. Two sparkling diamonds wink from the perimeters of a figure eight design, creating a unique piece and a wonderful homage to the era!
