Art Nouveau is an ornamental style of art that flourished between about 1890 and 1910 throughout Europe and the United States. Art Nouveau is characterized by its use of a long, sinuous, organic line and was employed most often in architecture, interior design, jewelry, and glass design. It was a deliberate attempt to create a new style, free of the heavier, more somber feel that dominated much of 19th-century art and design. During this time, artists turned to nature and fantasy for subject matter, with fairies taking prominence.
This fantastic Art Nouveau brooch has every design element the movement is so beloved for! Featuring a gorgeous female bust, with wings behind her, she has flowing hair and is crowned with water lily blossoms and lily pads. Rose cut diamonds accent her headdress, while a single diamond topped perfect pearl serves as a water droplet at the base. Not only a brooch, there are two bales behind her upper wings in which to thread a ribbon or chain through, so you may wear her as a pendant. The perfect adornment for all those who hold dear this enchanting, beautiful era of art history!
