The era we now know as “Art Deco” received its moniker from the Exposition International des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, held in Paris in 1925, which was largely dedicated to the jewelry arts. Emphasis was placed on the association of art and modern industry. The style was also utilized in architecture, where rectangular blocky forms were often arranged in a geometric fashion, then broken up by curved ornamental elements. But always the aim was a monolithic appearance with applied decorative motifs. It was especially successful in apartment buildings and skyscrapers.

In 1917, David Belais of Belais Brothers submitted his special formula of white gold; the patent was applied for in October of 1918, and approved in 1920. The Belais alloy became so popular, that during the 1920s, white gold was sometimes referred to as “Belais metal.”

Zircon, a natural gemstone, is the oldest mineral on earth and has been worn since Ancient times. Its structure allows it to form tetragonal prismatic crystals, which create a brilliance and a flashing of multicolored light called 'fire'. It is a stone which has been associated with inducing sleep, prosperity and wisdom, and is the modern birthstone for December.

This beautiful Art Deco ring epitomizes all that we love of the era! White18 karat gold forms the structural and decorative shank, while two large hexagonal zircons glitter from the face. Accented with bright green emerald glass, it could be worn by any stylish femme fatale post WWI and right into the Roaring Twenties. A truly celebratory piece that will make you feel like the bees knees every time you wear her!
