The era we now know as “Art Deco” received its moniker from the Exposition International des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, held in Paris in 1925, which was largely dedicated to the jewelry arts. Emphasis was placed on the association of art and modern industry. In 1917, David Belais of Belais Brothers submitted his special formula of white gold; the patent was applied for in October of 1918, and approved in 1920. The Belais alloy became so popular, that during the 1920s, white gold was sometimes referred to as “Belais metal.”
Crafted in 14 karat white gold and backed with 14 karat yellow gold, this lovely Art Deco era brooch has a beautiful design, with glittering diamonds on the face, four backed with onyx and forty dispersed throughout the heart motif white gold top. Three well-matched pearls, also backed in onyx take center stage, creating a clean, elegant look. Wonderful to wear on your lapel, at your collar, or in your hair, it will be your favorite special accessory!
