Persian turquoise was very popular among Victorians. It was brought to Europe via Turkey, and called “Pierre Turquoise” (Turkish Stone) by the French. It is harder than American turquoise, and has a pure blue color with no matrix, which was desirable in the Victorian Era. Queen Victoria was very fond of the stone, gifting her bridesmaids with pieces which included it, which added to its popularity. In many cultures, it is said to bring protection, health, prosperity and love. Some wore it to ward off the Evil Eye.
In the Victorian Language of Flowers, forget me nots held a popular view, as they are self-explanatory. The motif an sentimentality of it was used repeatedly amongst friends, family and love interests as tokens of esteem. A great multi-tasker, it was also utilized in mourning jewelry.
This wonderful forget me not ring is crafted in 9 karat yellow gold, with Persian turquoise forming the blossom on the closed back ring face. Fancy scrolled floral shoulders are embellished with two bezel set diamonds on either side. A perfectly sweet trinket that has all of us in a sentimental dither!
