In Greek mythology, Aphrodite was known as the mother of Eros. Both deities represented love, and their Roman counterparts were Venus and Cupid. This incredibly beautiful French brooch is a depiction of the famous mother and son duo, with styling popular during the Napoleon III era. The very finely hand painted porcelain image shows us Aphrodite in front of a letter, her hand poised with a quill, receiving a kiss from an infant Eros. Further embellished with puffy clouds and luscious flowers, it is a thoroughly romantic scene. Backed in mother of pearl, it has a gold bezel and a silver frame, ornately styled and encrusted with various stones and natural seed pearls. Aqua blue enameling decorates a ribbon woven throughout the design, giving it that Oh! So French! appeal that will never go out of style. A true museum-quality piece, it will take place of pride in your collection!
