Antique 18K, Silver & Bohemian Garnet Acorn Demi-Parure

Ancient cultures such as the Greeks, Romans and Celts associated acorns with fertility and life. Examples of gold work featuring the acorn motif can be found in museum jewelry collections all over the world. With the Greek revival movement during the Victorian Era, the design was again featured in many pieces of jewelry. While maintaining the symbolism of fertility, strength, stability and longevity were also incorporated into its meaning. Victorians loved to give sentimental trinkets as tokens of love, and this piece is a perfect example.

The word "Bohemian" comes from the region of Bohemia, a kingdom which later became Czechoslovakia. Deep red garnet gemstones were produced there along with a style of using them in jewelry that became popular in the Victorian Era, and throughout the turn of the century. 

Constructed in 18 karat yellow gold, this wonderful demi-parure consists of a brooch and pair of earrings. Each carefully and creatively constructed piece is in the form of an acorn with oak leaves. Oblong garnet cabochons form the nut, with glittering deep red Bohemian garnets serving to decorate the caps and leaves, which have silver veins. A true work of art, deeply romantic and symbolic set that is even more special because it has remained intact!
