Persian turquoise was very popular among Victorians. It was brought to Europe via Turkey, and called “Pierre Turquoise” (Turkish Stone) by the French. It is harder than American turquoise, and has a pure blue color with no matrix, which was desirable in the Victorian Era. Queen Victoria was very fond of the stone, gifting her bridesmaids with pieces which included it, which added to its popularity. In many cultures, it is said to bring protection, health, prosperity and love. Some wore it to ward off the Evil Eye.
Both Persian turquoise and forget me not rings were very popular during the Victorian Era, and we have just the piece to help you step back in time!
This Persian turquoise ring is crafted in 15 karat yellow gold. With a turquoise forget me not configuration on the face and a glittering diamond in the center, it will make you feel like a bona fide Victorian wearing it! Behind the ring face, there is a little open space that most likely held a lock of plaited hair. It was common for friends to exchange a wisp of hair as a token of love and deep regard. Today, you could do the same, or have a tiny memento of your own put into it!
